Newly refurbished Cheung Sha Wan Club House

The HKESA Clubhouse in Cheung Sha Wan has reopened on Friday 31st July after refurbishment. New flooring, fresh paint throughout, new pantry, new bar, refreshed offices and dedicated welfare room, refreshed décor, technology, state-of-the-art Mahjong tables, a karaoke system and new furniture chosen with our older veterans in mind, easier to get into and out of than what it replaced. There is also purpose-built storage, which means the Poppy Appeal materials finally have a proper home rather than being worked around every autumn.

The clubhouse has been the heart of the Association for years: committee meetings, mahjong, the monthly Happy Hour, and the ordinary business of people keeping in touch with one another. It is better now, and it is open for members daily between 10 am and 5 pm. All members are warmly welcome — come and see it.

WW2 Veterans Association Club House Mid Renovation

The renovation of the WWII Veterans Association Clubhouse in Causeway Bay is currently in progress. This clubhouse serves as the central hub for the veterans' community, hosting welfare meetings, the History Room, social hours, film screenings, and gatherings throughout the year. The project is in its initial stages, and further updates will be provided as development continues, without spoiling any surprises – the aim is to reopen with a ceremony at the end of September.

Our thanks to members for their patience while this is going on. Where an event would normally be held at Moreton Terrace and cannot be, we will let you know in good time and arrange an alternative.

New Membership and Membership Cards

We are modernising how membership works in Hong Kong. A new membership system is being brought in that lets members hold and update their own details, join more easily, and hear from us properly, designed around our members rather than around a form or the UK system. It will be bilingual, which the old arrangement never was, and that matters when Chinese is the first language of most of the people we serve.

Alongside it comes a Hong Kong membership card of our own design. It reflects the whole family of organisations here - the RBL, the HKESA, the Hoi Luen Society, the Volunteers and the Gurkhas - and it puts a member's own association first, where it belongs.

Hearing programme reaches its first veterans

Following observations during home visits and at yum cha, wherein it was noted that numerous veterans were experiencing untreated hearing impairment, we initiated a clinical hearing programme. The initial veterans have undergone testing and have been fitted accordingly. This year, the programme is set to expand and will also encompass vision care.
